Coaching tools for evaluation and education

The CoachCam opens and extends to about 6 feet. It collapses to about 3 feet long - and to quote John Leonard of ASCA "It goes in and out of your car, closet, etc. very easily.

It's light. (you can carry it around deck at the same time you lug that stopwatch and workout sheet) It could not be any more convenient."

Upon extensive testing in very low light pool conditions, we find that the cameras produce excellent color definition in low light as well as normal light situations.  This works well in almost all lighting conditions (good down to .5 lux).

CoachCam:
The CoachCam is the simplest underwater video product you will find. It is a very high quality camera that works in most coaching situations. It has 380 TV lines of resolution (a normal VCR displays only 240 TV lines). It works extremely well down to very moderate lighting situations.

CoachCam Pro:
The CoachCam Pro is the same as our regular unit, except it uses a high resolution camera. This camera outputs 480 TV lines of resolution. The picture difference is almost inperceptable except when digitally blowing up small portions of a picture. It is useful in production video work.

Infra-Red:
This is an option. For use in pools with extremely poor lighting. The camera unit has L.E.D.'s (light emitting diodes) which project in the infra-red spectrum. This appears as white light as a camera is trying to film in low light situations. The infra-red option will allow the camera to film in the dark up to 10 ft away. This option is not necessary in even moderately lit pools.

Audio Option:
You can add audio to your CoachCam. When you use your camcorder as a recording device with the CoachCam you are using it in VCR mode, and your camcorder microphone is disabled.

We add a small microphone to the junction box. Inside we add an amplifier board so the audio signal is output at "line level". This is a standard RCA jack that can be plugged in to your recording device (VCR, Camcorder, TIVO, ...).

PAL vs. NTSC
NTSC is the television standard used in the United States and North America, and many Pacific countries. It is based on 525 TV lines, 60 fields per second, and electricity based on 60 Hz. PAL is used in Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia, and most other countries. It is based on 625 TV lines, 50 fields per second, and electricity based on 50 Hz.

Currently we have PAL versions of the regular CoachCam (with options of IR or Audio).

If you're not sure which standard is used in your country, check it here:

Video Clips

The following video clips give an idea of the perspective, clarity and range of the CoachCam. They are not representative of the resolution, smoothness of motion, or overall quality of the video that CoachCam is capable of because they have been compressed for internet downloading.  At 380 lines of resolution, the camera far exceeds the average VHS tapes for your TV.

We recommend that your video size is set to 100% (both WM and RM), and that "Fit Video To Player On Resize" is not checked (under file menu, video size) if you're using Windows Media Player.

Notes on Battery Life:

Battery life can vary depending on battery type, type of use (continuous vs. intermittant), temperatures during storage and use . . .

Listed below is a range you can expect:

Average Alkaline AAA batteries:
Regular CoachCam:. . . . . . . . . . . . . 6-8 hours of use
Regular CoachCam with Infra-Red: . . . . . .3-4 hours
Regular CoachCam with Infra-Red and Audio . 3-3.5 hours
(Note: the regular CoachCam will begin to show colored lines on the screen as the batteries get low.)

CoachCam Pro: . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 7-9 hours
CoachCam Pro with Infra-Red: . . . . . . . .3-4 hours
CoachCam Pro with Infra-Red and Audio . . . 3-3.5 hours

Many ask about rechargeable batteries. Yes you can use rechargeables, but they must be 1.5 volt rechargeables!

All Li-ion batteries, and ni-mh batteries that we are aware of are only 1.2Volts. The only rechargeables that we've found that do have the required 1.5 Volts are Alkaline rechargeables. Ray-O-vac makes some that are sold at many Target stores. Lenmar also makes alkaline rechargeables.

In any case we recommend you keep a spare set of "AAA's" with your CoachCam.
